It’s easy to think of “Painted It, Blue,” Disney’s Broadway musical, as the most iconic musical in Broadway history.
That was until the musical opened on Broadway and became the first Broadway musical to be turned into an Oscar-nominated movie, and that movie ended up becoming the biggest Broadway musical ever made.
But, the movie’s star, Tilda Swinton, isn’t the only one whose life changed forever when she starred in “Paints It, Black,” which won a Tony Award for Best Musical in 2016.
“I was going to be the first black woman on Broadway,” Swinton says.
“But I couldn’t believe how much I loved it.”
Swinton was so enthralled by the musical, she wanted to be in it.
“The first time I saw the show I was so nervous I cried,” she says.
When she found out her husband, David Schwimmer, was in the cast, she said yes to the role of the show’s love interest.
She was thrilled to play the part.
“My husband said, ‘This is my new wife.’
I was just in disbelief,” she recalls.
“And I thought, Oh my god, is this real life?
It was so surreal.”
Schwimmer is now in the movie version of “The Phantom of the Opera,” but Swinton won’t be making the movie.
“There’s no way I can take this role,” she jokes.
“That’s my new life.
This is the new me.”
And she won’t let it end there.
Swinton also has plans to return for “The Blacklist” reboot, which is currently filming in Los Angeles.
“We’re trying to make a movie that is all about my life,” she laughs.
“It’s going to change my whole life.
I think it will be the best thing that ever happened to me.
It’s the only movie I’m ever going to see.”
Swinson’s love of “Blacklist” is not limited to its cast.
She also starred in the film “Tangled,” which earned Swinson an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, and “The Book of Mormon,” which is now being filmed in Toronto.
But she’s also excited about the chance to work with her husband on a new movie called “Gloria.”
“I think it’s going really well, and I can’t wait to see the film when it comes out,” Swinson says.
Swinson and her husband also have plans for another new movie, “The Great Gatsby.”
But, they won’t tell anyone where that movie is yet.
“What I’m really looking forward to is the next chapter of my life.
My life is very different now,” Swisher says.
So, where do we go from here?
Swinson isn’t sure yet, but she does have one suggestion.
“Don’t be afraid to make your dreams come true,” she advises.
“Even if you’ve been afraid for so long that you can’t do it, you should be able to.”
“Pants on Fire” will be back in theaters on September 21, 2020.
